Do you own a bakery? Have you completed a risk assessment for your business? Did you know there are 45 different hazards your bakery if it has a coffee shop could be open to risk of. Below are 8 of these hazards, for more information contact your local health and safety authority.

1. Electricity

As we all know electricity is dangerous, you must ensure your electrical equipment is fit for purpose and not faulty. Interaction with electrical fittings or electrical equipment can result in burns, electrocution and other severe injuries to you, your staff and customers.

2. Fire

Do you have smoke alarms? Have you checked they are working? Fire can result in smoke inhalation, burns and other severe injuries to you, your staff and/or customers.

3. Slips, Trips and Falls

Are you aware of areas in your business where potential slips, trips and falls are more likely due to spills? Not enough storage or poor lighting can result in injuries to you, your staff and/or customers. Do you have signs and equipment such as mops to deal with spills? Do you have warnings signs on steps and stairs and other areas in the business premises where slips, trips and falls are a possibility?

4. Broken Glass/Crockery

Do you have a first aid kit on your business premises in case broken glass/ crockery cause cuts, lacerations or other injuries to you, your employees and customers.

5. Gas Appliances

Use of gas appliances may result in lack of oxygen, fire or explosion which may cause suffocation, burns and other serious injuries to you, your employees and customers

6. Microwave

Do you have warning signs in place to inform others of the dangers associated with using a microwave? Using a microwave can result in burns, scalds and other severe injuries to you, your staff and customers

7. Oven/Range

Do you have a warning sign in place for instructions on the dangers associated with the oven/ range on your premises? Using ovens or ranges can cause fire, burns, scalds and other severe injuries to you, your staff and customers

8. Loading / Unloading

If you or your staff have to load or unload vehicles, there is a risk of crush, head and other severe injuries to you, your staff and customers.
